Darauf kannst du Gift nehmen

Hallo Leute,

Another week gone by and a lot of cool things happening here in Darmstadt!

We met a woman on a bus a week ago and we got to meet with her this week! Her name is Christina and she told us some stuff about her past that was really hard to hear and she told us for a long time she didn't believe in God. But as she gained the courage to break of ties with the hard relationship she realized that God held off His help so that she could learn to stick up for herself. That was a really cool lesson to be in and to see how she saw the bigger picture and realized what God wanted to teach her!

It's been really fun working with Sister Dixon, she has such a positive attitude and has such great goals! We're really seeing a big change here and we had the opportunity to have a street display on
Monday with the other missionaries and were able to set up 8 appointments! It's great to see how hard work pays off. The missionaries in our district are such great example to us and it's been fun to be able to work along side them!

Sorry I just have no idea what else to write hahah!

Have a great week!

Los gehts!

Hallo Leute!
Well this week was awesome! We had transfers and President called bright and early Saturday morning to tell me I'm training a new missionary for my last two transfers. I was so excited to hear that even when he told me I was heading into the home stretch..haha

I went down on Tuesday with Elder McClellan who is also training and we picked up Sister Dixon and Elder Doyle and brought them back on Wednesday to Darmstadt! Sister Dixon is from Idaho, is a solid foot shorter than me and is the coolest! We're already having a good time and get work done.
We met with our investigator, TG, and we explained to him about the church and asked him if he would be willing to join it when he knew it was true. He then told us that when he watched General Conference and hear the words of the leaders of the church he understood them and knew that they were true and that's why he was willing to meet with us!

General Conference was also amazing; here's a quote from Elder Hollands talk "In any case, I am grateful to know that in spite of my imperfections, at least God is perfect—that at least He is, for example, able to love His enemies, because too often, due to the “natural man”and woman in
us, you and I are sometimes that enemy. How grateful I am that at least God can bless those who despitefully use Him because, without wanting or intending to do so, we all despitefully use Him sometimes. I am grateful that God is merciful and a peacemaker because I need mercy and the world needs peace. Of course, all we say of the Father’s virtues we also say of His Only Begotten Son, who lived and died unto the same perfection"

I"m grateful for the words of modern day prophets and to know that despite all of my imperfection God loves me and is rooting for me and is by me every step of the way. I love this work and I love the people here and ja life is good!

Have a great week!

Ich kann ein Lied davon singen:)

Hallo Leute!

After getting lost in a forest for a few hours, I finally found the time to write some things down from last week:)

On Saturday we headed to Michelstadt to help out with a intercultural fest that they were having and we were in charge of the family search stand. Michelstadt is the cutest little German village ever!

We got signed up to sing on the stage in front of a bunch of people and the acts before us were belly dancing. So it was a bit terrifying to go up there and to sing hymns after loud blaring music. Us 6 missionaries and a member got up there and I was like....uh...but as we sang I felt at peace and after the three songs, the DJ said someone asked what Church we were from and he gave me the microphone and I said "Wir sind von der Kirche Jesu Christi der Heiligen der Letzten Tage!"not
ashamed! The more I'm out of here the more I feel at peace with the path I am on. It's definitely not easy facing rejecting everyday, but the message is a good one and I know it in my heart! There are so many awesome things that come to pass through hard work and a positive attitude!
A scripture comes to mind, Alma 26:12:
"Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we
have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever"

Sunday was again another awesome day! We had four people in church, a few from Palestine and a few from Syria! One of our investigators(Abraham) brought his friend, Basharand we got to teach
him yesterday about the Restoration! He texted us last night to thank us for the lesson and told us he has a lot of respect for our church:) Really nice guy and is ready to learn about the Gospel!

We've had lots of cool experiences with handing cards out and people calling, one man we talked to in a Bahn told us that we were awesome people and that he could feel the good energy coming from us(Holy Ghost) we didn't get a number but we invited him to church and he said he would come. Normally people don't come or call, but he texted us on Saturday! It was so cool! We are going to be meeting with him in a few days now! It's so important to not give up the hope:)

This weekend is General Conference weekend!!!! So exciting! We are blessed to have a living Prophet today and to hear his words!

Have a great week!

BMW bedeutet Bayrische Motoren Werke...?!

Hallo Leute!

I am constantly amazed at how amazing people are! There are someday where you face a lot of rejection and you wonder if you are ever going to find someone that has interest in hearing your message and then you stop someone on the street that makes all the rejection worth it! That happens every day to be honest:) We talked to two guys the other day because we noticed they were speaking Arabic and they were the COOLEST! Super open and friendly and had us laughing for like 5 min straight. We are meeting with them next week:)

We had our Zone Conference in Offenbach on Monday and what I took from it is that I should bear more testimony and promise/be more specific with the blessings we receive from the gospel! We stepped out of the church and Sister Lekic and I went to work and were able to find two people for the Elders to teach in 30 min because we were more personal with our conversations and promised them blessings! I love how we can always improve! That we can always find something to change in ourselves to become better.

I've started reading the Book of Mormon again in German and have made a goal to finish it before I come home which has me reading 5 or more pages a day in it and before I would have seen it as something I would do to get it done with and reach the goal and as more of a burden. But now I look forward to every time I get to open it and read in it! It's really something that brings you comfort in the hardest of times and I'm grateful for the Book of Mormon because it helps me see my purpose and it always puts me back on track.

I was reading in Jacob 5 and verse 74 popped out to me it says "And it came to pass that the servants did go and labor with their mights; and the Lord of the vineyard labored also with them; and they did obey the commandments of the Lord of the vineyard in all things" It's nice to know that when I put all my might into this work, that Christ is doing the same and with His might and with Him by my side there is no need to worry!

We met with some amazing people again this week and one in particular was Kate, she's from Nigeria and we shared the restoration with her and she added her testimony to the need of prophets and to end every comment she said "that's what I believe" She told us that she wants her daughter to see by her example, the importance of believing in Christ and she had her daughter’s birthday party in their church because she wanted her daughter to have a church birthday party always as a memory! What a cool mom! Haha she's great!

We are so blessed to be able to have this knowledge, to understand the importance of this life in our eternal progression and to have the duty to share it to our fellowmen! People are the coolest! They all deserve to hear how they each have a purpose here and that they are never alone and that they have a Heavenly Father who loves them and an older brother, Christ who is carrying their burdens along side them and that Christ's church is restored so that they can have a place to
hear the revelations of God! We are trying our hardest to pass the good news on but we always need more help so my invitation to you all is to write the blessings you have gotten from the gospel and to help others see how they can be blessed too!!

Liebe Grüße

Ich gebe es euch, das Salz der Erde zu sein

Hallo Leute!
Fall has definitely arrived! Rain makes its way everyday and I'm so happy about it! Pretty sure everyone thinks I'm crazy for loving it but naja life. Because it's cold out that means we got our share of hot chocolate this week as in every appointment our investigators bought us hot chocolate so I'm running on a solid 5 cups from last week:)

Friday, Saturday and Sunday were pretty cool! They do something here every year called Space Tagung and it's for all of the members 18-30 years old in Germany! There had to be around 300 people there all together and church was a mad house! Meaning that they used the gym as
part of the Chapel in order to sit everyone in there! It was so cool to be able to catch up with my friends from the Dortmund and Düsseldorf stakes! It was so cool also too see more people are age
that are valiant in the Gospel. I got to talk to a few people who have gotten their mission calls and got to bear testimony of Missionary work and how awesome and rewarding it is!
Duisburg friends
On Friday we were on the bus on the way to go dooring and we talked to a girl our aged named Jignasa, she asked us about our church and if she could come with us to it so we changed our plans and road the bus to the church and were able to give her a tour and everything! That's never happened either on my mission but it was so cool to be in the chapel with her and explain how we worship God.
We've been working on being more bold in our lessons and letting our investigators know why we meet and what the blessings are that they can receive when they accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ and yesterday we had this awesome lesson with Abraham. We met him my first full day in Darmstadt and he's been kind of wish washy the last couple weeks so it was nice to meet with him and explain the Priesthood Power and how there is only one true church on the earth and the need for a living
Prophet in these latter days. And it clicked in his head! We've taught him multiple times about prophets and this time he understood how we need one told too! It really was a testimony to me of the power of the spirit because as we taught the lesson things kept coming to my head to teach him and how to explain everything. That has happened before in other lessons but it was even more apparent to me this time as we spoke and taught together with the Spirit. So thankful for it!

To wrap it up, we had a lesson on Sunday about the verse in 3 Nephi 12:13 that says "Verily, verily, I say unto you, I give unto you to be the salt of the earth; but if the salt shall lose its savor wherewith shall the earth be salted? The salt shall be thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men" The teacher talked about us as being salt. First time I've heard a lesson
about this. She told us that if we, as salt, stayed together all the time we'd have really no purpose because salts purpose is to enhance other things. So it's our duty to spread the gospel to other people
and help them improve their lives. I've talked to a lot of people that said that they are happy without God or that they don't need God to be happy and after the lesson on Sunday I thought about how the Gospel can enhance everyone's lives and give them even More happiness and More purpose!
So my invitation to you is to be Salt and go out and talk to people about the Gospel, serve others and work on becoming the best people you can be!
I hope that all made sense...:)

Schlagsahne Oder Butter

Hallo Leute,
The days just keep getting better and better! Literally so happy to be doing missionary work everyday!

We got to go to Heidelberg for a split (my first split not as a STL in a solid 6 months) and I got
to work with Sister Jenkins and do a lot of finding on the mall stretch. It was way fun just being able to talk to people for an hour straight and I got to meet so many cool people ready to hear the
gospel, I'm excited to see where they will be in a few months.
We had a district finding activity and it was raining so we decided to go door the university apartments and Sister Lekic and I were not feeling good about it so we left early from that and as we were walking away from it we saw a huge building and were like, we have to Klingel it! So we step up to the front door and start ringing each bell and none of them answered or had interest when they did and then we get to the second to last one and a woman comes out asks us what we were doing and we told her a survey and she let us in!!!!!!!  Whatttt?? For those of you who don't know, it's extremely hard here to get into someone's apartment to share with them a message about God, it's happened only twice on my mission, anyway she lets us in, offers us something to drink, we start going through the survey about belief and she then goes on how she lost her faith in God but how it was restored a few months back after an experience she had and she told us that if we had come 4 months earlier she would not have let us in. It was really cool to be able to share the Book of Mormon with her and the Restoration of Christ's church and we will be going back next week to see her! It's so cool how we are lead by the Spirit to those God has prepared!

Also the members in this ward are so nice and it's so cool to be able to get to know them, even though there are like 200! We ran into 4 of them at different times today all around town, so cool!

Hope everything is going well for you all!

Darmstadt a.k.a. The City of Intestines

Hallo Leute,

Yes I got transferred this week:((( Really hard to leave my friends in Duisburg but I'm excited for the opportunity to serve here in the beautiful Darmstadt. Yes, it does mean intestine city in English so we
are just going to be using the German name for now haha. Fun fact about this place is that President Uchtdorf grew up here in our area and we attend the church he went to! Also Sister Kleiner( my trainee) served here after I trained her before she went to the Temple square mission! So already this place is pretty awesome:) Sister Lekic(pronounced Lekich) from Orem UT is my new new companion! She just got finished being trained and is a fireball for sure haha we've already laughed enough to last the millennium so we will see how the rest of the transfer goes! She's an incredible missionary and I'm already learning tons from her, she loves cooking too so I guess I'm done making noodles for dinner every night...hahahah thankful for that!
Sister Lekic and me
The first day in Darmstadt was crazy awesome we made a goal to fill up the next day with appointments and we accomplished it and now we have two new investigators! The people hear are so ready and willing to meet and I know I've only been here three days but man the work is just getting started! Cool story from the other day..We had just finished a lesson with Klev, new investigator, and I was talking to Sister Lekic about how I just wished I could tell people exactly how Christ can help them in their lives and that they'd understand it too! Well in the process of me explaining this to Sis Lekic a girl had sat next to us in the bench and after I spoke she cut it and asked if we believed in Christ (in English) and then said she couldn't speak a lot of English but we switched to German for her and she just bore powerful testimony to us about God's love and how He listens to our prayers and she explained to us how she was having a rough time with her boyfriends family but that she prayed and fasted and they allowed her to keep dating him and she said she loved how
knows our needs so perfectly and helps us even when it's just with the little things. I've never met someone so happy to talk about God but she said she loves to because it makes her happy and gives her energy. She belongs to a different church but said she'd come check our church out on Sunday!
You never know who is watching or paying attention to you here and it was a real testimony booster to me about making sure I keep my actions and words focused on the Savior! It's cool to see how God works in mysterious ways to help us find those ready to hear the truth:)

Thankful to be here and serve the Lord!

Eis Eis Termin

Hallo Leute!

We had yet another great week and I think my favorite Sunday of my entire life! We had 5 investigators in church and that was literally the coolest thing ever! Esther and Isaac came for the first time and Maya, Elena and Ali also were there. I was just so excited and they all had a good time and Esther told us later that she felt like she was at home:)
Later on Sunday we went by Elizabeth, a person that I found in the area book(where we write all of the numbers of people we met on the street) and she's from Bulgaria! We shared the restoration with her and after Sister Catherall prayed at the end, we looked over and she was crying! We asked her what was up and she said that the sisters met her over a year ago by the bus stop and had tried multiple times to come by but she said she always said she didn't have time. Then her sister told her that God was trying to talk to her and she should listen. So she decided to meet with us and when I asked her if there was anything we could do for her she said " you've already done so much!". We got out of the apartment and we're literally overwhelmed with the love that God has for her. I love moments like these and the Restoration of the Gospel is just something so important that can help
us see that God still loves His children and yes we have hardships and sometimes life isn't fair but we need these challenges because they are what shape us into better people. God doesn't take our problems away, He gives us the strength to work through them.
Sister Weiler and me
I was with Sister Weiler on a split and we got Eis hahaha(for the second day in a row) and we went to the same shop as the day before and I noticed that the same people were working there and I was a little embarrassed but we went anyway and two of them we had given pass along cards to a few weeks prior. One of them apologized for not coming to church and he asked me if we meet during the week haha so I explained to him what we do and he asked if we could meet on Friday! So we are meeting tomorrow and I'm so excited! It pays off to get Eis;)

Anywho we have transfers this weekend so please pray that Sister Catherall and I train here in Duisburg haha that's the dream but we will see what happens.

Have a great week and remember to smile:)

Warum ist die Uhr so klein?

opportunity to be allowed to teach them the Gospel!
Sussan - she's hilarious hahah
Last week I shared a little about Ali and this week there were just a ton of cool experiences with him so be ready haha. He came to church on Sunday! He was a little mad with us because we didn't tell him to wear a suit but he got over it I think haha. It was fast and testimony meeting and I was explaining to him that anyone can go up and bear their testimonies and how we have it once a month. Towards the end of the meeting he asked me if I or Sister Catherall were going to go up and I said probably not and he said "Why not? Do you not have a testimony from last month?" I laughed and thought about it more and was like I have learned a ton this last month that has helped strengthen my testimony so what do I have against going up and bearing my testimony? So I went up and bore my testimony, came back and sat down and he said "You did a good job there Farner" haha but
that really struck a chord in me how I do have a testimony and that I should share it when I have the opportunity to do so!

Side note: Warum ist die Uhr so klein? Means why is the clock so small? Ali asked us that after Church about the clock in the chapel, haha he always asks us tons of questions!  We met with him yesterday and he told us that during sacrament meeting on Sunday he heard a testimony from a Bruder that was about how the missionaries found him on the street when he was 28 and he said he
will never forget that day. Ali then told us that he'd never forget when we talked to him on the street and asked if we'd ever forget him. We were like no way! Haha We then talked about his reading assignment in the Book of Mormon (Alma 34) and he told us that it gave him a better understanding of who Jesus Christ is for him and that he has a gained more love for Christ and that he knows now why Christ's sacrifice is so important. He grew up with a family that doesn't believe in Christ as the Son of God but as he has read in the Book of Mormon, prayed and come to church he has received that knowledge that He is! I could go on about how awesome Ali is. I'm really happy we get to teach him, but honestly he learns stuff on his own through the Spirit and we just confirm the truth! I'm grateful that we met him on the street and have been able to teach him. Nothing is cooler than seeing
someone come to know the Gospel of Jesus Christ and change according to it to make them even happier than they have ever been before! So basically share your testimony with those around you! It helps strengthen your faith and the faith of those who listen.

One of our other investigators, Elena was also there on Sunday and was touched from someone's testimony on Christ-like love! Seriously another great person we get to meet with. She told us that she hadn't read in the Book of Mormon for a few days and then had a test that went badly and decided to read and she said that she felt an overwhelming peace by doing so and that she loves meeting with us because she gets to be out of the world for a bit and focus on the spiritual side of things.
I could probably write a solid 10 more paragraphs on the miracles and the people and how great God is but there is power in shorter emails, right?

I love this work, I love the Lord and I'm grateful for everything I've been privileged to experience, the good and the bad, because it has made all the difference in my life.
I went to my last area, Dortmund, on a split and Lisa wore her patriot

Wat ist dat?

Hallo Leute,
Another week gone and more miracles to report:) We met a guy last week named Ali and we got to meet this week with him and oh my goodness! He's the funniest guy ever,   (Elder Burch
says hi, I stole Sister Farner's tablet while she is minigolfing right now) he told us he thought he needed to wait until was old to talk to people about his beliefs and such and he saw us and was so surprised and want to go on a mission like us too! We had to explain to him that he needed to be baptized and follow some commandments but he seriously couldn't stop asking questions! I've never met someone so open to learning in my entire life! We get to meet with him tomorrow and I'm so excited!!
We had Zone Conference this week and Sister Catherall and I got to give a presentation on "talking with everyone"! Something we've been pretty passionate about this transfer. It's really great to be able to work with all the missionaries and help them with their work!

I went on two splits with brand new sisters, Sister Richards and Sister Weigeshoff and it's amazing how willing they are to improve and get better and how patient they are with learning German. I was honking back when I was being trained...haha definitely didn't have the patience that they have. It was weird that they were looking up to me as someone old on the mission because I feel like I just got out!

We had another lesson with Elena and she's having a hard time knowing if Joseph Smith really was a Prophet and if he actually saw God and Jesus Christ. The member that was helping us with the lesson defined faith in a way I've never thought before. He said that when we have faith and we say that we know God is real it doesn't mean that we've necessarily seen Him, but that when we have experiences with God and we change because of them we know for a surety that we have changed because of those experiences. I hope that makes sense haha sometimes it's hard for me to write it all out haha. But when we read the scriptures, come to church and pray we build our faith and we become changed people because of it therefore we become evidence of the truth ourselves.

Have a great week and keep improving:)

Liebe Grüße
Sister Farner

Hallo Leute!
I was all over the place this week! I went to Euskirchen (2 hours in a train) and was on a split with Sister Estes who is from my MTC group! We had a lot of fun and may have gotten lost in a forest...but we made it out alive! We also helped out a member with cutting hedges and I ended up with tons of grasshoppers in my hair hahahah as an award for helping him, Bruder Titz gave us a loaf of freshly baked bread(Such a German thing to do). It's really cool to see how sisters progress during our splits together and how we both see the changes we need to make in order to become better missionaries.
I also got to go to Düsseldorf too and it downpoured the whole day! People must of thought we were crazy skipping along and being happy as we are becoming drenched with rain. My shoes ended up bleeding into my feet so now I have blue feet! Hahaha it will come off eventually.
Sister Catherall may have caught me a few times talking in my sleep. Last night I was apparently teaching someone how the Bible and the Book of Mormon are similar and last week I was setting up an appointment with someone on the street and saying it all in German. Guess I just don't stop being a missionary when I'm sleeping...I did yell another night "it's huge!!!" And Sis Catherall woke up and asked me what was and I told her there was a huge spider on the ceiling....and then I woke up and told her I was dreaming about it. Ahaha good times..Sister Catherall is a trooper for all the time she wakes up to me talking...
We had yet again another great lesson with Isaac! He's reading the Book of Mormon more and more and he shared 2 Nephi 33:10 "And now, my beloved brethren, and also Jew, and all ye ends of the earth, hearken unto these words and believe in Christ; and if ye believe not in these words believe in Christ. And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, and he hath given them unto me; and they teach all men that they should do good" and he said that he felt in his heart that it was true, the words he were reading were from a prophet and they gave him so much strength! Just a great guy really diligently searching for the truth.
We've had some crazy cool finding stories as we have opened our mouth and trusted that God would fill it and sometimes we don't need to say anything, people just come up to us! I sat in a Bahn(train) and a guy came and sat next to me and asked how I was and what I do and said he'd be interested in learning and he gave me his number and told me I should call him, that happened two other times this last week! It helps that we carry Books of Mormon around with us everywhere and are wearing dresses. Makes us stick out hahah
Our Distrikt leader shared this scripture with us in Moses 6:31 which says "And when Enoch had heard these words, he bowed himself to the earth, before the Lord, and spake before the Lord, saying: Why is it that I have found favor in thy sight, and am but a lad, and all the people hate me; for I am slow of speech; wherefore am I thy servant?"
Which is often a question I ask because I am not so eloquent with my words and I'm also not perfect with German. But the Lords response is great!
32 And the Lord said unto Enoch: Go forth and do as I have commanded thee, and no man shall pierce thee. Open thy mouth, and it shall be filled, and I will give thee utterance, for all flesh is in my hands, and I will do as seemeth me good"
God promises him that he will have what he needs to fulfill God's will. I guess I forget a lot of the times that it's really nothing I do that's makes the difference besides acting. Opening my mouth, speaking to every person that I possibly can and then God gives me what the people need to hear as I need to His Spirit. We do all we can in life and God makes up the rest. But we need to ACT. We can't just wait around until God does stuff for us. He works with us according to our desire and our effort.
I hope you all choose to ACT this week and make the best out of your situations and that you see how God helps you through the hardtimes as you work with Him to do so.

Liebe Grüße,
Sister Farner

Hallo Leute,
Shoutout to my mom for the birthday package:) it came!
We did a lot of finding this week and had a ton of hilarious and also really cool contacting situations for example:
- one man contacted us and started talking about how he leads people through haunted houses and then he said bye and walked away..
- another man asked if we were JWs and we said no and he then asked of if Adam's rib was dry when God took it to make Eve..trockenrippen(dried ribs)
- one man that I asked what made him happy said that we did because he saw us early talking to people with enthusiasm and said he'd gladly visit our church:)
- Sis Catherall and I sat across the aisle from each other and both talked to two guys and both of these men could on the speak English and we both got both of their numbers and hopped out of the train and ran across the platform to the train going in the other direction because we had missed our stop ha comp unity! There were a lot of other cool contacts but I don't have the time to share:)

Sister Perkins and her parents were traveling around her mission and we got to eat with her and our investigators, Scurender and Isaac, and Pouyan! Was really fun and really weird because of the mix of cultures. Ghana, America, Iran and India all together...hahaha so fun! Pouyan bore testimony to Isaac about the Book of Mormon and it was super cool! Also Isaac doesn't speak a lot of German and a guy in the train asked him if he was also Mormon and he said yes! Haha super funny!
We had MLC for the first time with President Boyer and it was sooo awesome! The mission is continuing on getting better and making goals in working better with members to help people to come to Christ. Members are so important!

Sister Yeck! My Mtc comp that I haven't seen since the very start of
my mission!!
Us being us
A lot happened this week that was also good but ich habe keinen Lust mehr zu schreiben...
There's a scripture that Sister Catherall wrote on our window and it's from Alma 26:34-35 and it says:
"Now have we not reason to rejoice? Yea, I say unto you, there never were men that had so great reason to rejoice as we, since the world began; yea, and my joy is carried away, even unto boasting in my God; for he has all power, all wisdom, and all understanding; he comprehendeth all things, and he is a merciful Being, even unto salvation, to those who will repent and believe on his name. 36 Now if this is boasting, even so will I boast; for this is my life and my light, my joy and my salvation, and my redemption from everlasting wo. Yea, blessed is the name of my God, who has been mindful of this people, who are a branch of the tree of Israel, and has been lost from its body in a strange land; yea, I say, blessed be the name of my God, who has been mindful of us, wanderers in a strange land"
Ah this scripture is just exactly how we are feeling here! The Gospel is a gospel of joy and God has given us so many reason to rejoice! Yes we have hard times and things don't go as planned but when we remember all the things He has done for us and will do for us when we follow Him it's all worth it!

Have a great week!
