Hallo Leute,
This week was great and the weather helped! The sun is shining, I don't need to wear tights, the church is true, what isn't there to love?
We had a missionary leadership counsel meeting on Friday for like 6 hours so we traveled down to Offenbach from Dortmund, which was 2 hours. We needed to wake up at 6 am in order to catch a bahn at 6:30 to the main station to catch our other bahn at 6:53 and we woke up at 6:23.... and sprinted around our apartment haha Sis Williams said "just grab a dress and go" we didn't haha we changed and got ready in like 30 seconds and raced out the door to the train station. The station is normally 10 minutes away but we made it there in 3 and ended up catching a different train that got us to the main station at 6:50 and we caught our train!!! That was a wild morning..never been more awake in my life. But I did learn that praying before you leave is really important because we did that and Sis W prayed that we'd make it on time and we did! Simple testimony build right there:) The meeting was good. I felt pretty out of place considering I've only served in Dortmund and so I didn't know like any of the other sister training leaders or zone leaders haha but there were a lot of people from my old Distrikt way back when, Elder Regehr and Elder Ault! It was cool to catch up with them! We got a picture of all the people who serve or served in Dortmund(the best place ever).
We went on Sunday, to pick up one of our investigators, Sussan. She forgot to turn her clock forward an hour so we ended waking her up haha whoops and she got ready real fast and we made it to church only 15 min late! Not too shabby. She is seriously a wonderful person and we taught her about prophets the other day and how we have General Conference coming up and she was like "when and where!?!" She also just said the prayer to start the lesson instead of us asking to do so and she has a huge desire to be baptized on the 15th. The gospel really changes people and I have seen it change her as she comes to church, as she prays, as she reads in the scriptures, etc. President Stoddard told us that we can tell if someone is converted by their actions and what they do with what we teach. She has invited multiple friends to join in lessons and has asked super great questions on what she can improve on. Ah it's so cool! She really wants to follow Christ and do what she needs to do to return to live with God again. I'm grateful that I have the opportunity to teach her and, through the Spirit, let her know what she needs to do to become what God wants her to be:)
We stopped by a family that consists of the parents who only speak Arabic and their 5 daughters all under the age of 11. Seriously this family is adorable. We were blessed to run into one of the elders investigators who can speak Arabic, German and English and asked him on the fly if he could come with us and translate and he said he could! It was seriously so helpful! We start the lesson and the father was pretty set on his belief that there is no Christ and then as we went through the Atonement more he changed. We shared Alma 7:11-13:
11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his
people.
12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to
the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.
13 Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me.
And that's when his demeanor changed. At the end of the lesson we asked if we could come by another time to talk more about the Atonement and he said we could! The Atonement is real. Without it we would be suffering with all our sins, sorrows, grief, etc. But because of Christ and what he accomplished, we can be happy! We can be free from that which pulls us down. I know that I'm here to bring people to this knowledge, to bring people to Christ as they believe in Him, as
they exercise that faith through repenting and being baptized and by receiving the Holy Ghost to direct them back to their Heavenly home. What a joy it is to bring souls to Christ! I'm grateful for this work for the opportunity to serve the Lord every day!
Ah! So happy and blessed to be in Deutschland!
Liebe Grüße,
Sister Farner
